Rich Froning Book

First: What it Takes to Win

Rich Froning BookThe hounds are salivating and braying behind the door. <Knock, knock.> Who is it? Rich Froning, 2x CrossFit Games world champion, and he has a new book, the first of its kind from the infant sport of CrossFit. First: What it Takes to Win will be available on July 1st, but of course, you can pre-order it anytime between now and then. But, <gulp> who are these hounds of which you speak, Scooby Doo?

Critics. Yeah, “those” people. The types who build up unattainable expectations and expect everyone else to fulfill the responsibility of those expectations. Wait, do I dare criticize the critics? Does that make me a hypocritic, or maybe even a hypercritic? Sorry, I thought that was punny.

I’m one of those kids who happens to be very excited about the release of this book, and can not wait to rip my grubby hands into it. Not that we should expect any overnight success stories to come from an all night, one-sit devouring of this book, but every leap of self-improvement begins with a warm-up. The better the warm-up, the better the leap.

The book description is, and I quote, “Reigning CrossFit World Champion Rich Froning is “The Fittest Man on Earth.” He’s fast. He’s strong. And he’s incredibly disciplined. But it takes more than physical strength to compete and win at an elite level. It takes incredible mental and spiritual toughness as well. And it is the precise balance of all three that makes Rich Froning a champion.

In First, readers come alongside Rich as he trains for and competes in back-to-back-to-back CrossFit World Championships. Along the way, Rich shares invaluable training tips, motivational techniques, and spiritual insights that, in keeping with the CrossFit philosophy, will prepare you to respond to any real-life physical, mental and spiritual challenge.

Woah, did someone say spiritual? Might wanna keep that to yourself. No one likes that kinda talk, not ’round these parts. I can hear them now, the critics.

It seems our heroes are better suited to moonlight as dog-fighters, pimps & drug-pushers. No one with a heart of spirituality has any business inspiring us, or serving as role models for our children. That would be preposterous and politically incorrect. Fine, I volunteer, I’ll be preposterous and appreciate the significance of his tattooed biblical verse; I’ll be politically incorrect and ponder his thoughts on prioritizing God first. Is my hand high enough?

Despite your views on spirituality, or even religion, Rich Froning is a man who knows what it takes to win, and who couldn’t use more of that sort of inspiration? First: What it Takes to Win coming soon to a highlighter and a nightstand near you.
